Spooktober Check-In 2: Got A Good Feeling About This???

Progress on my project is going along swimmingly.  I've reignited that writing spark that was dying.  Hopefully it stays when I go back to Clash: Blue Mirage next month, but I will worry about that next month.

The Automaton of Second London is split into six scenes (with the first scene being a quick backstory infodump and the sixth scene being three endings based on how the player treats Jack, the titular automaton, throughout the story).  The scenes are short, but then again this is being made for a jam so it should be fine.   I have finished the intro and scene 1, and I started writing scene 2.  I introduced four of the characters and the setting.  I even snuck in a couple of Victorian Halloween traditions for fun.  If all goes well, this could be my best story yet!

On the visual side of things, I am actually very happy with how the game looks.  I am not good at drawing.  Most artists would say "well, get better then!"  But this game's devtime is only a month, I don't have time to get better.  So instead I'm working with what I have.  Utilizing different photos as models/reference materials, I focused on outlines.  The white scribbles against dark backgrounds make it look like I knew what I was doing all along.  Add to that the robots' red eyes as the only splash of color and I've actually got something stylish.  Its not perfect and I'm sure some people will find the proportions all off and ugly, but in my eyes this is the best artstyle I've churned out.  The fact that I am content with something I drew instead of gagging in disgust or drowning in shame at the sign of it is a huge step for me.

To sum up - I am very happy with the writing and visual progress so far.  Which is a big deal for me.

This week - I aim to finish scene 2 and hopefully start scene 3, touch up the GUI, possibly put together a trailer, and make some more sprite poses.  We will see if I get there.
