Jam Checkpoint #1

Within the first four days or so of the jam, I accomplished the following:

  • Decided on a genre and engine (interactive fiction in Inky)
  • Built a cover image and game page for clickz
  • Crafted an idea of a story around one of my alien OCs (who is a major player in Rings of Neptune, which was cancelled but will soon be uncancelled.  So this works as a good prologue/warm-up/renewal/whatever)
  • Built an outline and a setting (1969; woods outside a ranch in the South)
  • Decided on a whim to have the parts where the player is interacting with aliens and/or alien technology to shift from prose into verse (because I was exposed to a lot of verse novels in my day job and now that's my vibe)
  • Got the first 40% or so written

What I still need to do:

  • Get the last 60% written
  • Make sure it works (regarding coding and grammar/spelling)
  • POST IT TO DA JAM
  • Stop procrastinating about Clash: Blue Mirage (hopefully this is the creative kick in the pants I need to work on Chapter 5)

So I guess I can safely say I am on track for my release date, which is good because I only have a few more days to get it done.  And those days are going to be jam-packed with IRL shenanigans.  Except Friday, that's the start of a four-day weekend.  :-)

Oh gosh, you guys.  I have such a good feeling about this one.  I am enjoying writing it, especially the verse parts.  I don't think I have been this energized about any sort of devwork since I was first starting out.  Like, this is going to be up there with Man Make Machine for me.  Which is good because they are in the same universe.

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy the end product.  And I'll keep chugging along until we get there.
